Where do things stand? More than three months have passed since the exposure of theft in the energy sector - the Midas case, which NABU and SAPO opened in November 2025. Businessman Tymur Mindich and former energy and justice minister Herman Halushchenko are the key figures. Halushchenko was served a notice of suspicion and detained while trying to leave Ukraine; he was given a measure of restraint with the option of bail of more than UAH 200 million and may be released at any moment. According to the investigation, tens of millions of dollars may have been laundered through the scheme, part of which went to the former minister's family, and the operation itself worked through offshore and Swiss structures. This means the scheme is much wider and larger in scale.
Despite these loud statements, there are still no final court verdicts in the Midas case, the number of suspects is small compared with the scale of the losses, and verdicts against the top suspects have not been handed down: Yermak has no notice of suspicion, nor do others involved in the shady deals, friends of the president. The state of affairs underlines the urgency of reforming the practice of measures of restraint in corruption cases, to avoid situations where suspects walk free on bail and keep their influence over the schemes. That is why I ask you to sign and share the RESISTANCE petition to abolish bail for top corrupt officials so that they finally face punishment for their crimes!
