The day before, a hearing in the case was held at the Halytskyi District Court. It lasted almost 6 hours. The verdict was promised for the next day, 25 September.
As a reminder, on 5 August on Lviv bus No. 23, Yuliia Kahaniak swore at Azov soldier Andriy Kulikov after he asked her to move her bag off the seat.
Mariia Soshnikova asked for UAH 20,000 in moral compensation for her effectively ruined wedding and a photo shoot cancelled because of the beating, and together with her lawyer Olesia Fedoryshyn supported the prosecutor, who asked the judge to impose 200 hours of community service. However, Judge Oksana Bezpalok of the Sykhivskyi Court decided otherwise. Yuliia Kahaniak received 60 hours of community service and was ordered to pay UAH 5,000 in moral damages.
Notably, in April 2021 Yuliia Kahaniak had already been involved in a court case. Back then, her own mother complained to the police about domestic violence by her daughter. According to the mother, the daughter shouted at her and called her obscene names. However, the administrative case was closed and Yuliia Kahaniak was given a verbal warning.
