"Golden" drones? UAH 254 million in losses on procurement for the AFU

The case in briefRESISTANCE MEDIA

At first this case was about UAH 90 million in losses. Now NABU and SAPO say the amount has grown to UAH 254 million. It concerns the State Special Communications Service's purchase of drones for the Defence Forces in 2023. Officials decided in advance which companies would get the contracts, and brought in other controlled firms to create the appearance of competition.

In September 2023 the following were purchased under this scheme:
▪️ 500 DJI Mavic 3T;

▪️ 2000 DJI Mavic 3 Pro;

▪️ 900 DJI Matrice M30T.
According to NABU, the prices were 60-90% above market.

Earlier, detectives investigated the purchase of other batches of DJI and Autel drones with losses of UAH 90 million.

During the further investigation they found two more companies linked to the supplier and additional contracts. So the total amount of alleged losses rose to UAH 254 million.

Four suspects in the case had their notices of suspicion updated, and the de facto controller of the private companies received one too. They are charged with embezzlement of property on an especially large scale.

While Ukrainians raise money for drones a few hundred hryvnias at a time, state purchases of equipment for the same soldiers were overpaid by up to 90%.

RESISTANCE demands not just notices of suspicion, but real accountability for everyone involved in stealing funds intended for the defence of Ukraine.
