The Kudrytskyi case is becoming a test for Ukraine's law enforcement system and a signal to international partners. According to MP Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, the SBI is now demonstrating how politically biased Ukrainian law enforcement can be.
The Kudrytskyi case is seen as a tool of political pressure - a classic example of how the Presidential Office can use the justice system to punish opponents. According to Yurchyshyn, under the «Reparation Loan» programme Ukraine's Western partners will likely demand reform of the SBI as a mandatory condition for continued financial assistance.
If the SBI is not reorganised and cleansed of Bankova's political influence, the country risks not only an internal «explosion» of distrust in law enforcement, but also serious economic consequences through the loss of Western support and investment, which are already weak because trust has been shaken by total corruption.
