Elections on Trump's deadline: FT on Zelensky's plan and his bid for re-election

The case in briefRESISTANCE MEDIA

The Financial Times reports that Ukraine is allegedly considering holding a presidential election and a referendum on a peace deal with Russia at the same time. And all this under a strict 15 May deadline insisted on by the Trump administration.

Elections on Trump's deadline: FT on Zelensky's plan and his bid for re-election
Politics, 11.02.2026

According to the newspaper, if the deadline is missed, Kyiv could lose the security guarantees offered by the US. The plan is to complete negotiations in the spring, with the Ukrainian side ready to work to extremely tight deadlines despite wartime circumstances and logistical risks.

The start of the elections. There is information that Zelensky may announce a plan for elections and a referendum on 24 February. But these are only rumours. The newspaper notes that this cunning plan of Zelensky's - combining two votes - is more a way to increase his chances of re-election. So that other candidates do not even have time to prepare and run a campaign.

Manoeuvring and playing to the public. I don't believe Zelensky will allow uncontrolled elections, except when he has a good chance of re-election. Because for him losing his post is a verdict on his entire system. And while usurpation of power is on the Office of the President's agenda, the country lives with mounting governance problems, personnel failures and decisions by the "Servants of the People" that more and more often cause shock. The system is toxic, like a vicious circle. Elections are needed immediately. This system must be changed completely!

As a reminder, any agreement signed with Russia is not worth the paper it is written on. The only guarantee of lasting peace in Ukraine is a strong economy and a strong, combat-ready army.

No one attacks the strong!
