Pshonka's son's assistant - the next judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal?

The case in briefRESISTANCE MEDIA

Imagine a judicial candidate who uses an apartment in an elite residential complex registered to his pensioner father. He drives cars registered to relatives. And his common-law wife receives over UAH 3 million in gifts from her parents over several years.

Pshonka's son's assistant - the next judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal?
Politics, 03.07.2026

Exactly such a candidate is now applying for the post of judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal.

This is an adviser to the current interior minister Yurii Pasternak. In 2012-2013 he and his common-law wife worked as assistants to Artem Pshonka, the son of former prosecutor general Viktor Pshonka. Artem Pshonka himself has been wanted since 2015.

Now about the property.

  • Pasternak's father, a pensioner who lives in Drohobych, bought an apartment of over 108 m², a parking space and two non-residential premises in the Kyiv business-class residential complex Alter Ego. The total declared value is UAH 5.4 million, but the property is used by the candidate himself.
  • A Skoda Superb is registered to the candidate's mother, a Volkswagen Touran to his common-law wife. And the declared value of the Volkswagen is significantly lower than the market value of similar cars.
  • In 2017-2025 Pasternak's common-law wife received over UAH 3 million in gifts from her parents. Her father is retired judge Yurii Retseburynskyi, about whom a negative opinion was once published stating that he "reinforced in society the idea of the rule of impunity and collective cover-up in the judiciary".

And now exactly this person is applying for one of the key posts in the capital's court of appeal.

The questions are no longer only for the candidate.

The question for the HQCJ: will these circumstances really be checked during the interview, or will Ukrainians once again be told that it is all "help from relatives"?
