Ukraine's parliament is delaying criminal liability for sanctions evasion

The organisation is convinced that, because of amendments, the updated draft law is no longer aligned with the relevant EU Directive. In particular, the negligent form of guilt for violating or circumventing sanctions was removed from the draft. This change is a step away from the new European standard.

The EU Directive requires criminalising the trade, import, export, sale, purchase, transfer, transit or transport of sanctioned goods, as well as the provision of services related to sanctioned goods, even if committed through negligence. Especially when these goods are military or dual-use goods.

«Parliament continues to drag out a critically needed solution to the problem of sanctions violations and evasion in Ukraine, once again postponing the vote on the draft law»the statement says

«It is very important that Ukraine is finally able to effectively punish violators of anti-Russian sanctions», the organisation stressed, calling on parliament to pass the draft law in the second reading, taking into account certain amendments.
