Sonko said he "did not know" about the torture of his own citizens committed by his subordinates in the security forces. The court answered simply: you were the minister - so you should have known and were obliged to stop them. That is exactly why he got 20 years. Doesn't this remind you of the rhetoric of Zelensky, Syrskyi and Fedorov? They too either stay silent or claim that nobody knows anything. But "not knowing" does not remove responsibility, and the Sonko case proves it. And no pocket SBU, SBI, Interior Ministry or Prosecutor General's Office will cancel your international arrest warrant.
This story is a reminder to everyone who considers themselves untouchable today that there will be a reckoning. Sooner or later. All the more so since Ukraine ratified the Rome Statute in 2024.
At RESISTANCE, after receiving dozens of testimonies of torture of service members in various units, including especially the personal units of Syrskyi's close associates - Shyriaiev's 225th and Harkavyi's 425th "Skelia" separate assault regiments - as well as testimonies of cruel treatment by TCC staff, we are starting to collect evidence for an application to the ICC, since we see no effective investigation by the SBI, the Prosecutor General's Office and the SBU. It seems an order has come from above not to respond to these crimes against humanity and to drag the cases out for years.
Besides, many did not believe the ICC would issue an arrest warrant for Putin. Then for Netanyahu. But it happened. And by the way, the ICC can now also issue secret arrest warrants. That is, a person may not even know they are already internationally wanted until they are detained.
No position should guarantee impunity. Even years later, justice will always be restored, and there will be no hiding from it on the Cote d'Azur or on overseas islands. And it depends on each of us that this happens as soon as possible.
If you or your relatives have testimonies, documents, photos, videos or other evidence of cruel treatment, torture, abuse or beatings, send them to us anonymously and confidentially to our secure email - pravda@sprotyv.team
When do you think the International Criminal Court will issue arrest warrants for the Ukrainian Sonkos?
